First New Public Market Since 1955
New Home for Essex Street Market Features Over 35 Vendors
New York – Tomorrow, Monday, May 13, New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) President James Patchett, City Officials, community stakeholders and over 35 vendors will celebrate the grand opening of the new Essex Market at Essex Crossing.
First opened in the 1940s on Essex Street, NYCEDC led the renovation and revitalization of the market into a new 37,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility that includes 39 vendor stalls, two full-service restaurants, and a demonstration kitchen that will be used for cooking classes, educational programming, and more. The new space, which is triple the size of the previous location, will provide the local community and visitors alike with local and globally-sourced fresh and affordable grocery items and prepared dishes.
All 21 vendors operating out of the previous market space, including the world famous Davidovich Bakery, have made the move to the new location, where they are joined by 16 new vendors, including Lower East Side Ice Cream Factory, Samesa, Don Ceviche, and Heros & Villains.

July 30, 2018 NYC– After 116 years of serving NYC and the surrounding area with some of the most iconic Black & White Cookies in the world, Glaser’s Bakery closed for good last week.
This closure left a gaping void for the generations of New Yorkers whose guilty pleasures included these equally-balanced, fondant covered gems. For some it meant the age-old question of, “Which is superior- the chocolate or vanilla?” might never be answered. For others it was a more telling sign of the death of one of the many things that was a signature NYC product for ages.

March 29, 2018- Chelsea, NYC–Davidovich Bakery, bakers of the world famous Davidovich Bagels, presented the first installment of their campaign against Breast Cancer in a ceremony today at the historic Chelsea Market to Stephen Baldwin, on behalf of The Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of CNY, Inc.
Davidovich Bakery has been an active participant in the #TurnitPink campaign for the last two years, selling PINK themed bagels to raise awareness and funds for the cause.
Actor and activist, Stephen Baldwin joined the Davidovich Team to brainstorm future ideas and to accept the presentation of the 1st installment of Davidovich’s collections.
